That’s what modern narcissism really is – a pernicious mix of qualities defined by three words that start with self: selfishness, self-absorption, and self-importance. In contemporary parlance, it may be known as asshattery, douchebaggery, or dickwadishness, but it’s all one or another spin-off of a virulent egomania spawned in the 1980s. Sure, the Internet may amplify.

As the 80s generation experienced the natural journey from idealistic youth to more jaded middle age, many probably concluded that the world wasn’t changing – it was just more self-centered than they previously thought.

The goal is to bring as diverse a coalition together as possible so that our side has a cohesive agenda in the states. For too long, conservatives have been able to use huge sums of money to push the most radical right-wing policies through state legislatures. The congressional delegation refuses to take sides in a dispute where a massively profitable, taxpayer-funded company is trying to crush workers shows just how pathetically out of touch our government really is.

A candidate who votes for Roberts, opens themselves up to attack on the grounds that they are not a qualified standard bearer for the party, ... Hillary Clinton or any candidate can't take the Democratic Party for granted. If Roberts hands down some extreme rulings, a vote for Roberts becomes a symbol of the negative consequences of Democratic capitulation.

Primary candidates spend months publicly beating one another up and spending money that should otherwise be hoarded for use against the other party. Meanwhile, incumbents rise above it all stressing their credentials as statesmen.
